National Cancer Society for Animals CEO Andrea Spencer acquainted Martha with NCSA'S animal advocacy, recognizing Stewart's own world size heart toward the animal kingdom. "We need someone to carry beginnings into perpetuity, to lead the animal industry to its finest luster. Martha's perfect." WE THANK MARTHA FOR HER GOODNESS. Dear Good Morning New Child,

Could you do me a favor?

I need one child to spend her entire lifetime carrying a satchel around the whole earth, emptying it bit by bit every few steps. I need her to be able to reach in and recognize the beauty of a blade of grass, to pull from it the heavy task of perfection, and to piece all that is gorgeous in nature into a weave of her own design, then to unpack it across the world for all the days of her life!

Now I know I've never asked anyone to do such a task. And yes, . . . . you probably won't get much sleep. . . . But I have faith that you won't tire. . . . . So I ask you my soon to be born Martha Helen Kostyra, . . . . may I send you to Earth to bring Heaven?

It's ageism when people question the white haired vitality within the man McCain, says republican strategists on ABC This Week.

C'mon kids, questioning melanoma reoccurance possibilities is wisdom. It doesn't hit ageism.

If we were concerned that Jack and Jill had Mad Cow Disease and might drop their milk buckets heading up hill, it wouldn't be ageism. Though they both be more than 100 years old, our query is for mad cow, melanoma, myositis and the like.

Shall we ask no smart questions and risk "come tumbling down"?

C'mon kids, get sharp!

Professor, mother of Andrea's Weimaraner Troupe, is featured in her '66 Mustang on Halloween 1997. With cancer in its early stages, Professor and friend Kristen took to the road in this media event to say, "I will make you a miracle that you will carry in this parade long beyond the time of this photo." Every year thousands of families attend this parade in Norton Massachusetts. Professor's memory marches strong and tall with floats, police dogs, veterinarians, radio stations, banners, and a '66 red Mustang with a holiday glow in the back seat.

National Cancer Society for Animals and our associates within the region are most appreciative. Mr. Miskell's efforts have been to support our new charity shop, our Top Dog Ambassadors, and our animals in healing after veterinary treatments.

Wonderful surplus treats and quality foods have come our way throughout this year. Everyone is happy to see the surprises Mike donates each month!

"I love this pop gun toy," says one of our young customers of the THE SMACK DAB SHOP. The pet treat dispenser was a definite PLUS to every kid who bought one for their dog!

'Professor' on the eve before her rear leg amputation.

Diagnosis: CANCER

CLOSING a page to open another, we posed for 150 shots taken by professional photographer, Bill D'Espinosa, in order to remember time as it once was.

After her surgery that next day, Tufts called. Professor "was the unfortunate one", they said. Of all the cancer patients scheduled for surgery that week, Professor was the only animal sent home without surgery. Her cancer had traveled into her pelvis and spine. All of the other amputees to be, went on without her.

She came home with Valentine's Day upcoming. I was sorry that I would know it to be her last.

A year later however, and on Valentine's Day, photographers clicked away in my face for a huge color photo to appear front page. Professor, alive and well, with my arms all around her, looked square into those cameras.*

Perhaps she was seening the faces of Simon and Cheyanne, Mister and Rauleigh, Varney, Tobey, Izzy Calvin and Brando, her friends from the operating room who had gone on to their surgeries without her.

With chilling shock, the doctors and I had seen each one of them die throughout the year, the last on New Year's Eve. Professor lay beside many of them in their homes as we, the families stricken, dropped ceremonious heads to the latest loss.

Two weeks after Valentine's Day, TV crews were assembling to come visit Professor. They had heard she had become suddenly ill. But before they could arrive, she was gone. On March 18, 1999 Professor Zimbabweeps reluctantly let go of her mother's arms all around her.

It was time for her to catch up with old friends. For again, they had gone on without her.

The National Cancer Society for Animals would like to thank you both, and most certainly, the 11th grade class for the highly pleasing work that was done on our executive business vehicle.

In particular, we would like to note the prompt and informative communication throughout the process, attention to detail, quality workmanship and willingness to go that extra mile to insure safety and top notch customer relations.

On two occasions I have been impressed and thankful to have our Jaguar's needs met by Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical School - most recently the excellent mechanical work done by Mr. Kane's young people, and a season previous, the fine exterior work handled by Mr. Collins' body shop crew.

Both groups of young car care students should be proud of their skills! I personally thank you all for putting National Cancer Society for Animals out there on wheels working well an lookin' good!

Well, hello from the green meadows my imagination has been breathing since seeing your early morning stroll portrayed in photos!

I think it's time for an anthology of poems to be strummed along with your 'mud-luscious wonderful' portraits of wet morning wind willows walking.

Look at your beautiful fences in splayed finger handlock with one another. Then there is much to be said for the families of animal faces settling into the clouds to watch the jocund day your gardeners are preparing to design.

Your so harmoniously balanced photo of 'Twilight in Pink' is where I think I'll take to my pencil lead, now a mass of words unwritten. I'll come back to you with the beauty of your photo in words.

Who's Counting . . . One Tweetie, Two Tweetie

I heard there is some bird counting going on for those of us hearing them peeping out from winter.

I don't know what you have tallied about your woods and fields, but I on the same terrain, with lily ponds and rivers included, have 123 species.

They were counted by the Audubon Society when staying on my property's artist retreat some long time ago.

Since then I have added Weimaraner upon Weimaraner to the land. I doubt any species to be lost to this barking lot since I have found nests built in the kennel doll houses and lilac bushes. I've even spotted their little twig and grass homes cemented over the entry at my front door!

There is a trust here that seems to billow from bird to bow wow!
